Cheatham Students Shine at Region 1 We the People Competition!

This past Saturday, Cheatham Elementary students showcased their knowledge and skills at the Region 1 We the People competition, held at Mountain View High School. Although this event is traditionally for high school students, elementary schools were invited to participate in a special showcase.

Our students demonstrated their understanding of the First Amendment in a simulated legislative hearing before a distinguished panel of judges, including two Arizona State University political science professors and an Arizona Supreme Court Justice.

The competition required students to deliver a prepared four-minute speech answering three specific questions on the First Amendment. They then faced a challenging six-minute Q&A session, during which they answered random questions without using any notes.

Cheatham’s team impressed not only the judges but also other schools participating in the event. Their confidence, preparation, and poise earned them high praise from community leaders and showcased the incredible potential of our young learners.

We are so proud of our students for their hard work, dedication, and passion for civic education. Thank you to everyone who supported and encouraged these bright minds in their journey!

Cheatham Partners with Global Credit Union to Deliver Financial Education to Students

In collaboration with Global Credit Union and local branch manager, Kayla Tamayo, Cheatham recently offered essential financial literacy lessons to students across various grade levels on our campus.

  • Third graders were introduced to the basics of money, learning how it works and understanding the value of saving. They even created their own savings banks to encourage early financial responsibility.
  • Fifth graders took a deeper dive into how money is made, with lessons on goal-setting and budgeting to foster smart financial habits.
  • Eighth graders explored advanced topics, such as saving, investing, budgeting, and insurance—preparing them for real-world money management.

These financial lessons not only teach students how to build a positive relationship with money but also promote long-term economic sustainability within our community. We are deeply thankful to Global Credit Union and other local businesses for their continued support in helping our students grow and succeed.
