Free Meals For Children During Closures

Knowing many of our families rely on school meals for their children, we will be offering free breakfast and lunch to all children between the ages of one and 18 on a grab & go basis. Families may stop by any of our schools (except Vista) or one of our ten district bus stops. Use our Nutrislice page to find the stop closest to you. Look for our school buses at the locations below.

Children must be present to take a meal. Adult meals are not available. Families do not need to register for meals and there are no income requirements.

UPDATE: Beginning April 13, there will be changes to our free meal program. For added convenience to our families, and for the health and safety of our employees, we will be providing both breakfast and lunch together during one meal service. Locations remain the same.

School sites will be serving meals from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Bus stops will serve meals from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

UPDATE: The meal service schedule will be changing starting May 20 as we transition to the summer meal program.

SCHOOLS AND OFFICES ARE CLOSED, BUT LAVEEN SERVICES CONTINUE

Chalkboard using the "Closed not closed" hashtagGovernor Doug Ducey and State Superintendent Kathy Hoffman announced the extension of Arizona school closures through the end of the school year. The extension follows updated guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and an announcement from the White House extending physical distancing guidelines until April 30, 2020. On March 30 Governor Ducey announced his Stay Home, Stay Safe, Stay Connected executive order, which provides for the continuation of distance learning, meals for children, and child care provided by public schools.

Laveen will continue to provide vital services to our community including meals for children and childcare. Additionally, our academic team has developed many online resources for our students to continue their learning during the closures. Office staff will continue to answer phones and respond to email messages throughout the closures.

Cheatham Announces Change in Administration for 2020-21

Cheatham School will be experiencing a change in its school administration for the 2020-21 school year.

Principal Andrew Wait has accepted a position with the AVID organization. Mrs. Sandy Kennedy will serve as interim principal through the end of the 2019-20 school year.

Ms. Kristi Pashley has been named Cheatham’s principal beginning in July 2020. Please review the letter from Mr. Wait for more information.

Prospective Parents: Open Houses Scheduled At Each School

Each of Laveen’s eight schools will host an Open House between March 24 and March 28. Visitors will be provided with an overview of the school and a tour of the campus with special emphasis on the school’s signature program.We encourage prospective families to attend and see what makes Laveen schools the right choice for your child.

Preschool Programs Enrolling for 2020-21.

Preschool registration for the 2020-21 school year begins February 4, 2020.

Laveen offers preschool at three locations: Desert Meadows, Paseo Pointe, and Vista del Sur. Paseo Pointe offers a dual language immersion program while Desert Meadows and Vista del Sur provide general education programs.

Preschool is a full-day academic program that is taught by certified teachers. It is tuition based and serves children ages 3-5. Before and after school programs are available.

Registration for all three programs must be completed at the Kids Club office, located at Desert Meadows (6855 W. Meadows Loop East).

English Language Arts Adoption Committee Recommends ReadyGEN and StudySync.

The English language arts adoption committee has been meeting regularly since October, 2019 to review potential curriculum to support K-8 students. This process involves representatives from all schools an excellent opportunity to research and evaluate potential English language arts programs for the 2020-21 school year. After many hours of work, reflection and deliberation, the recommendations are:

The recommended programs systematically integrate the four strands: reading, writing, listening and speaking, and language. Additionally, each program provides methods and materials for differentiating instruction for students with disabilities, gifted, and ELL subgroups, while ensuring that all students still encounter grade-level text during the core block of instruction. Finally, the digital engagement component supports our district-wide technology initiatives.

District to Host Cyber Safety Workshop for Parents

The Laveen School District will host a parent workshop on Cyber Safety at 6:00 p.m. on February 11 at Vista del Sur, 3908 W. South Mountain.

The presentation will cover general topics related to social media including sexting, cyber-predators, cyber-bullying, popular apps, and social media websites. The session is being presented by The Office of the Arizona Attorney General and will run 45 minutes.

Middle school students are encouraged to attend with their parents/guardians. There is no charge to attend. This session is open to all Laveen families.

Early Childhood Fair is January 22

Join us for this free event showcasing resources for current and future parents of children under 5. The 2nd Annual Early Childhood Fair is January 22 from 5:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. It will take place at Laveen School, 4141 W. McNeil.

Participants will have the opportunity to visit with numerous vendors and providers that include activities for children, preschool, child health & development, and community programs & resources.

2nd Info Session Planned for Estrella Foothills Global Academy

A second informational session for prospective families of Estrella Foothills Global Academy will be held on January 30 at 6:00 p.m. This event will take place at the Laveen Education Center, 5001 W. Dobbins. Attendees will hear more about the global studies program and the process of becoming an International Baccalaureate World School. Plans of the campus and construction progress will also be shared.

Kindergarten Round Up is February 4 for Students Starting in August 2020

Parents with students starting Kindergarten in August 2020 are invited to register their child during our annual Kindergarten Round Up event on Tuesday, February 4 from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. You will also have the opportunity to meet the teachers and visit kindergarten classrooms. Children registered on this date will receive a free gift.

Kindergarten Round Up will take place at all Laveen schools with the exception of Vista del Sur, which requires an assessment prior to enrolling. Kindergartners enrolled at Paseo Pointe must be part of the Dual Language Immersion program, a 50/50 model where students spend half their day in a classroom where teaching and learning is conducted in Spanish and the other half in English. Kindergarten Round Up for the new Estrella Foothills Global Academy will take place at the Laveen Education Center, 5001 W. Dobbins.

Students may be enrolled in any of our schools regardless of where they live, space permitting. Families living outside of a particular school’s transportation zone will be responsible for providing transportation.

Please bring the following items to register your child.
* Proof of Residence (examples include: utility bill, rental agreement, mortgage statement, etc.)
* Child’s Immunization Record
* Child’s Original Birth Certificate (copies not accepted)
* Parent/Guardian’s Photo ID

Children must be 5 years old on or before August 31, 2020 to register. Children turning 5 after August 31, but by December 31, may be evaluated for early entrance in May.

Laveen offers free Full Day Kindergarten at all schools.
